Description:

"Danse des Sauvages" is from the final entrée from Rameau's opéra-ballet "Les Indes galantes" ("The Amorous Indies"), first performed in the Palais-Royale in Paris on 23rd August 1735.
The music sets the scene: the stage showing a grove in a forest in America, on the borders of the French and Spanish colonies, where the ceremony of the Peace Pipe is about to be celebrated.
